We meet once a month at the beautiful Kin Collective: A welcoming community hub in Leith. Being the parent of a preemie baby can sometimes feel very isolating. Being the only parent in the antenatal group whose baby is born way ahead of the rest, spending countless days and nights in hospital. Once your baby leaves hospital, being the only parents whose baby is tiny and is smaller than the rest, having to answer the same questions over and over again. Everything is different for premature babies, from establishing breastfeeding to starting solid foods, immunisation dates, changing their clothes and nappies, etc. But please know that you are not alone in this journey. The group facilitated by Marcela de León Pérez from Mama Gives Light: Doula, Pregnancy and Postnatal Yoga teacher, Antenatal & Birth Educator. Marcela's first baby was born very prematurely at 27 weeks and spent nine weeks in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The support of the NICU nurses and doctors is incredible. But being parents to a preemie baby, Marcela and her husband realised how little support there was outside the hospital environment and she is passionate about supporting other parents in similar situations. This is a space for you to be able to meet with other parents who are or have been in a similar situation. Whether you had or currently have a premature baby in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), you will be welcome in this group. It is a space for you to meet and chat, celebrate little milestones, share stories, shed tears of joy and tears of sadness, to support each other and just share a cup of tea together, outside the hospital environment. The sessions will be informal and group led, so we can let the conversations flow naturally depending on what the group needs each day. If what you need is just a little rest, Marcela is happy to lead a short breathing and relaxation practice to support your well-being. This is a space for you and your family to feel supported and included. Come and join us!
